A VERY TIGHT TIE CAN CAUSE BLIND

A tight-fitting tie over a collar is definitely a sign of seriousness and elegance, but a knot that is too tight can increase eye strain and the risk of glaucoma. At least that's what a study published this Tuesday in the British Journal of Ophthalmology claims. Glaucoma is a disease of the eye which causes an irreparable reduction in the field of vision. It is the consequence of damage to the optic nerve. It is first the peripheral vision that is affected. A person who has it can go blind if they don't get treatment. Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in the world in the least developed countries of the world, after cataracts. Scientists evaluated the impact of a tight tie on 20 patients with glaucoma and 20 healthy patients. Results: it increases intraocular pressure in the majority of patients (66% and 70% respectively). Worn during an eye exam, the tie could also lead to a false diagnosis, temporarily increasing the pressure.
This study therefore invites ophthalmologists to take this parameter into account under penalty of over-diagnosing glaucoma. For everyone else, loosening this tie a bit is better for your health!

THE SITTING POSITION ON THE TOILET MAY MAKE SICKNESS

BLOCKING YOUR SNEEZING CAN KILL YOU

According to the medical journal BMJ Case Reports, blocking your nose or mouth so as not to sneeze violently could be very dangerous. The authors of this study indeed reveal that this practice could cause a tear in the throat, damage the diaphragm (the muscle located between the thorax and the abdomen), rupture a blood vessel in the white of the eye causing contusions of the white part around the iris, tear the eardrum of the ear which can cause hearing loss. Holding back a sneeze can even cause a blood vessel in the brain to rupture due to the momentary rise in blood pressure causing death.

It's important to note the difference between holding back the urge to sneeze and trying to block a sneeze in progress. Indeed, it is normal to rub your nose, to breathe forcefully through your nose to relieve the urge to sneeze, but once the sneeze begins, it is usually best to just let go.

HONEY CAN KILL YOUR BABY

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES) "absolutely" advise against giving honey to children under one year old .

Although honey has many health benefits, it should not be given to infants under one year of age due to the risk of infant botulism. Babies under the age of one do not have a fully matured digestive system and are susceptible to botulism food poisoning.

Infant botulism is a rare disease caused by the spores of a bacterium: Clostridium botulinum. When ingested, these spores develop in the intestine and release an extremely dangerous toxin. This toxin which can easily lead to the death of the baby. Botulinum bacterial spores are widely distributed in nature and honey tends to harbor them more than other foods.

VEGETABLE CAPSULES MAY AFFECT YOUR HEALTH

Since the 2000s, many users of vegetable capsules, report adverse effects on products that normally had no side effects. Some complained of digestive disorders, nausea sensation 20-30 minutes after ingestion of harpagophytum or ginseng capsules. Others had rashes on different parts of the body after taking herbal capsule supplements.

In 2003, an article of the magazine Your health n ° 40 of January 2003 warned against the serious dangers of vegetable capsules on health. Moreover, the Ministry of Health and pharmacovigilance remind manufacturers and individuals of the precautionary measures to be observed with regard to the use of vegetable capsules. Indeed, it seems that the colloidal cellulose, which is used to manufacture vegetable capsules, presents in prolonged use, a certain toxicity for the kidneys (nephrotoxicity). Several cases of hematuria (blood in the urine), pyonephrosis (suppuration of the excretory cavities and the renal parenchyma) have been reported in the medical press. The culprits would be the residual chemical solvents: propyl and especially methyl, the toxicity of which is well known.

Indeed, you should know that the weight of the capsule shell that we find in our food supplements can represent up to 26% of the total weight of the finished product. The quality of this envelope is therefore to be questioned.

Contrary to what its name suggests, an “envelope of plant origin” is ultimately not a natural product. It comes from pine cellulose transformed during reactions involving chemical solvents (HydroxyPropylMethylCellulose, hypromelose, hypromellose, microcrystalline cellulose). It is known under the name of “vegetable” capsule or HPMC capsule for Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose or E464. This envelope is not and cannot be certified organic, because it is a non-agricultural and processed product. On the other hand, the European regulation authorizes it in organic products, but excluding it from the percentage of organic ingredients in the product.

However, chlorophyll capsules are not as natural as some might think. They are only simple capsules in bovine or porcine gelatin, to which a green chlorophyll dye has been added. The only goal is to make consumers believe that the capsules are vegetable without paying the price (a vegetable capsule is 2 to 3 times more expensive than an animal gelatin capsule).

To date, the best capsules have been identified: marine organic fish capsules (treated either physically without chemical elements or simply with water) and Pullulan capsules from plant extracts: Poly-maltotriose, guar gum, seaweed extract, acetic acid and purified water. They are non-allergenic and 100% vegetarian.
